La menthe est une plante herbac\u00e9e vivace qui fait partie de la famille des Lamiac\u00e9es. Elle comprend de nombreuses vari\u00e9t\u00e9s, qui sont pour la plupart cultiv\u00e9es comme plantes aromatiques ou m\u00e9dicinales. Connue pour sa fra\u00eecheur, cette plante contient entre 40 et 80% de menthol, un compos\u00e9 odorant tr\u00e8s frais et aromatique. Elle fait son apparition dans l\u2019univers de la parfumerie d\u00e8s le milieu du 19e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 Pierre-Fran\u00e7ois Pascal Guerlain qui cr\u00e9era pour l\u2019imp\u00e9ratrice Eug\u00e9nie une eau fra\u00eeche aux notes de menthe, qui devait la soulager de ses maux de t\u00eate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, on utilise majoritairement deux vari\u00e9t\u00e9s diff\u00e9rentes dans les compositions. La plus r\u00e9pandue est la menthe poivr\u00e9e, qui contient une grande quantit\u00e9 de menthol, au parfum tr\u00e8s frais et aromatique, presque \u00ab froid \u00bb. La menthe cr\u00e9pue quant \u00e0 elle, d\u00e9voile un parfum beaucoup plus herbac\u00e9 et v\u00e9g\u00e9tal.
