Civet is an animal raw material from a small mammal coming from the meeting of a fox and a cat in Ethiopia. A substance secreted by a pocket near the genital glands of the animal is recovered. It is then extracted with volatile solvents to obtain absolute. Today, the harvest is prohibited, the civet is only reproduced thanks to synthesis<\/a> to protect the species. It has a very heavy and powerful smell. It loses its intensity in dilution and is used as a base note in many compositions to bring a sensual shade.
