Its function is to protect the tree against insects attacks. It is collected by&nbsp;bark&nbsp;incision, a method existing since Ancient Greece. Since that time, it has always been considered as a precious raw material, used for healing and religious rites. Incense has a camphoric, spicy, peppery smell and can remind us of bark, dusty wood or even the inside of churches.
