The citrus fruit commonly known as grapefruit is actually a pomelo. It was discovered more than 200 years ago but its origin remains rather unclear between Asia and the United States. Today this citrus fruit is produced mainly in Florida, Israel and Argentina. As with other citrus fruits, grapefruit essential oil is obtained by the cold expression method<\/a> by pressing the peel. This essence has a sulphurous aspect and it brings green and bitter citrus notes to the compositions in which it appears.
