Originally, liquorice is a perennial plant native to Asia and Europe. It can grow up to 1.5 meters high and has large leaves and pod-shaped fruits. But what interests our noses and taste buds is found under the ground, at the roots of the plant which forms rhizomes. Harvested since Antiquity, this root has been used as a long-life elixir and as a candy. In perfumery, we also used the liquorice root. It can be ground into powder or extracted directly. Its spicy fragrance, with sweet and woody accents, can also be reproduced in the laboratory thanks to synthesis. Liquorice brings a gourmand touch and roundness to a fragrance.
