The mastic tree is a plant of the family Anacardiaceaes. It has been cultivated since ancient times to perfume spirits and pastries. This know-how is inscribed in the World Heritage of Humanity. This tree grows in a garrigue environment and flourishes in a Mediterranean climate. It can be found in North Africa, Greece, Turkey and even Corsica. The mastic tree produces a resin, commonly called tears, when its trunk is incised. This gum with a strong balsamic odor was one of the first chewing gums. In perfumery, the branches and flowers of the tree are distilled to obtain an essence with a fresh green scent.
